With multiple assessment companies vying for your business it’s important that you pick the right one. When hiring a workforce of 100+ at a time it’s essential that your pre-screen potential candidates. If you’re new to the assessment space it’s important to know what you need and what you don’t need. Obviously cost will be one of the biggest factors when making a decision, but there are other factors you should consider before making a decison.

To make the selection process easy, I’ve outlined 5 things to look for when selecting an assessment company:

Variety of Testing. There isn’t going to be a one-size fits all assessment test type. It’s important when shopping around for assessment companies to look at the variety of test types offered. Most assessment companies offer tests that are create your own or customizable based on your industry.  Due to an increase in startup companies, test questions might be out of date. The ability to create your own questions is becoming a very popular choice in the technology space.

Sufficient Reporting. 2013 could very well be the year of numbers. Companies are pressuring analysts to report the ROI of specific campaigns and any data that might be useful to future growth. As an assessment company it’s important that these features are available after a candidate has taken a test. Comparison reports, full individual reports, and reports that allow you to breakdown information by subject or question are just a number of reports that are useful.

Smooth Interface. The user-interface of a product is sometimes just as important as the product itself. If you’re working with a reputable assessment company their interface should look nice. Having a smooth interface creates an experience that is unmatched by your competition. You could offer the same thing, but if your interface looks and works nicer, a company is more inclined to choose you over your competition.  The look and feel of a product send signals to the user sub-consciously that could affect their purchasing power.

Ease of Use. If setting up questions, editing tests, and making it live isn’t an easy task, it’s not going to be easy for those taking the test. As technology evolves it’s important for companies to stay on the forefront of change. If you’re a company that is hiring for 100+ positions you need your assessments to work. When something breaks it could put you behind scheduled by days or even weeks. Relying on a support team to fix an issue is frustrating. Make sure when choosing as assessment company you look at up-times and how well their support team responds to inquires.

New Technologies. If you’re selecting an assessment company it’s important that the company is evolving at the same rate as their competition. Keeping up with new trends in assessment technology is crucial. If you start investing large sums of money and time into a company for assessment testing and newer technologies come out it’s important to have those features. The biggest obstacle for any company is to overcome the technology gap. The newest and best software is always outdating companies and it’s important to be ahead of your competition in this space.
